"ANDEAN BAROQUE IN LISBON! There are concerts that stay long in the memory.  I had the privilege of attending, on June 24, a beautiful concert of Andean Baroque Music, at the Man Pavilion of the National Coach Museum, in Lisbon. The group El Parnaso Hyspano presented a program of rare beauty, bringing together works inspired by Codex Trujillo, an illuminated 18th-century manuscript, and cantatas by José de Orejón y Aparicio, in a repertoire that reveals the fascinating encounter between European, indigenous and Afro-Latin-American musical traditions in the colonial period. Among many remarkable moments, the performances of tenor Rafael Montero, soprano Kate Smith and baritone John Sloboda stood out, accompanied by excellent Portuguese musicians, especially Helena Raposo, who enchanted the audience with the sound of the theorbo and baroque guitar. The closing number was very emotional: artists and audience formed a big dance circle, celebrating together an Andean tradition that transformed the concert into a true experience of communion through music.  An exemplary initiative, which deserves every applause.                                                                            [Review by @operaesogostar ]
